Cody Rhodes Teases John Cenas Retirement After WrestleMania 39
John Cena was the face of WWE from 2006 to 2016 and has now adopted the role of a part-timer. He has accomplished a lot in his 20 years with the company and remains a massive name in the industry. That said, it seems Cody Rhodes hinted that Cena could be retiring after WrestleMania 39.
John Cena made a highly-anticipated comeback and was visibly emotional upon hearing the cheers from the live audience on an episode of RAW. He decimated Austin Theory on the mic and set up his WrestleMania 39 match with Austin Theory.
That wasn’t all, as John Cena went on to surprise the crowd by inviting Cody Rhodes to the ring, which was met with a deafening roar of applause from the fans. The two embraced on the entrance stage as the crowd cheered on in excitement.
While speaking to Chaz Kangas of the Los Angeles Times, Cody Rhodes revealed that he asked John Cena to be his next opponent in the future. However, John Cena refused the request, seemingly hinting that WrestleMania 39 will be his last match.
“I told him if he does another one of these, I’d love to absolutely be that one. And he actually said, ‘I can’t promise that.’ And I’m pretty sure that’s all caught on camera or on the mics. But I definitely wanted him to know that you want your mentors and your heroes to… you wanna grow as tall as them but you also want to test them.”
Fans are eagerly anticipating John Cena’s return to the Grandest Stage Of Them All and are excited to see what’s in store for him. After all, Theory will be defending his United States Title against Cena at WrestleMania 39. We’ll have to wait and see whether John Cena will retire after his match against Austin Theory.
