Elden Ring: How to Free Sellen in Witchbane Ruins
After completing a series of prerequisites, Elden Ring players will find themselves tasked with freeing Sorceress Sellen in the Witchbane Ruins. Players first meet Sorceress Sellen in Limgrave after defeating a Mad Pumpkin Head who guards her abode at the Waypoint Ruins. Sellen is tucked away in the back of the cellar, ready to teach players new sorceries to use in battle. Players who use long-range spellcasting or spellblade classes will find Sorceress Sellen’s services highly beneficial.
When players first interact with Sorceress Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins, she will ask them if they want to learn sorcery for her. Players must accept her offer to begin Sorceress Sellen’s questline. After completing a series of tasks, including finding Master Lusat in Elden Ring, Sellen will tell players her current form is merely a projection. Sorceress Sellen will then task players with freeing her physical form from imprisonment in a cellar at the Witchbane Ruins.

Before players can progress Sorceress Sellen’s questline past the Master Lusat quest, they must defeat Radahn. After players defeat the Radahn boss fight, they can progress in Sellen’s storyline to free her from imprisonment. Sorceress Sellen’s physical form is shackled in the Witchbane Ruins. Players can find the Witchbane Ruins on the Weeping Peninsula south of the Fourth Church of Marika Site of Grace. Reaching the Weeping Peninsula in Elden Ring can be made easier by unlocking some more powerful spells from Sorceress Sellen.
Freeing Sorceress Sellen From The Witchbane Ruins In Elden Ring
Players will find a staircase leading into the cellar of a broken-down building at the Witchbane Ruins. When players head down the staircase, they will discover Sorceress Sellen’s physical form chained to a wall in the back of the cellar. If players have tried to free Sellen’s physical form earlier in the game, they can restore her back to normal by praying at the Church of Vows. Then, talk to Sorceress Sellen to receive Sellen’s Primal Glinstone as a reward.
After players receive Sellen’s Primal Glinstone in Elden Ring, they will be tasked with finding another form of Sellen different from her Witchbane Ruins and Limgrave versions in Elden Ring. First, players must head to Ranni’s Rise, a nearby set of ruins just to the northeast of the entrance to the cellar. Between the arches is an illusory floor that can be opened to reveal a staircase. Next, head down the staircase and open the illusory wall at the back of the cellar to reveal another Sorceress Sellen. When players speak with Sellen, they will be prompted to give her Sellen’s Primal Glinstone to progress further in her questline.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
