No one ever anticipates receiving news of such a terrible fate befalling a loved one, but that was the call Porter and her family received on a Sunday morning.
“Kayla, she was a fierce warrior,” Porter said.

She was rushed to UAM but passed away a day later.
The release states that Kala Swaims was pronounced dead Monday at a Little Rock hospital.
“We truly didn’t see any signs, didn’t know what to look for. She had been married to Kala’s brother.”
Family dynamics can be challenging to detect and even more challenging to convince someone to leave.
That’s why Kala’s friend from McClellan High School, Jajuan Archer, founded Women’s Own Worth in Little Rock.
“We want you to feel safe. We want you to leave. We want you to know that you are important and loved,” Archer said.
She is currently helping Kala’s family navigate the aftermath of that tragedy while mourning her friend.
“Kala didn’t realize how many friends she had,” Archer said.
As a nurse, mother of four adopted children, and two grandchildren, Kala was a lifesaver, and that didn’t stop with her passing. All her organs were donated.
“Think about all the people receiving that phone call; they are receiving a Christmas miracle. That’s a family member’s comment that helped them continue.”
A fortunate reminder during this holiday season is never to underestimate a moment.
“Let people know how you feel about them. Don’t let that moment pass because the next moment they might not be here,” Porter said.
The Little Rock funeral home is lifting the financial burden for the family.
