It is sad to report that Eastside HS Wrestling Coach Lane Burns Butler has passed away

Authorities claim that Lane Burns, 20, of Butler, was operating a truck that was moving north in the 2200 block of County Road 61 when he lost control and collided with a utility pole.

Live wires fell across the road as a result of the collision, which split the pole in half.

Burns stepped on the live wires when he got out of the truck to walk back toward the road, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. First responders declared him dead at the site.

Burns served as the Eastside High School wrestling team’s assistant coach. After hearing of Burns’ passing, Eastside principal Orie Foster made the following statement:

We would like to send the Burns family our heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the entire Eastside and Dekalb County Eastern communities.

Lane served as the wrestling team’s assistant coach after graduating from Eastside in 2021.

He spent a lot of time assisting the younger students. The squad and the school community will be very disappointed to lose Lane.
